Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Centre after the cancellation of three papers of the UGC-NET examination, citing irregularities associated with the affected examinations.
Reacting to the development, Gandhi questioned the accountability of the examination agency and demanded that those responsible for the alleged lapses be held accountable.
In a social media post, Gandhi criticised the functioning of the NTA and said that accountability cannot be established merely through assurances. He also questioned the government’s handling of examination-related controversies and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take note of the latest development.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid renewed scrutiny of the examination system and the NTA’s responsibility for conducting major national-level entrance and eligibility examinations.
The cancellation of the three UGC-NET papers is likely to intensify the political debate over examination integrity, administrative accountability and the reliability of the country’s competitive examination framework. The NTA has faced sustained political and public scrutiny over examination-related irregularities in recent years, with students and opposition parties repeatedly demanding greater transparency and stronger mechanisms to prevent malpractice. The latest controversy has once again placed the spotlight on the need for robust examination security, transparent investigations and clearly defined institutional accountability.
