Uttarakhand Technical University Cancels Two Exams After Question Papers Leaked Before Test
Dehradun, India — Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has cancelled two semester examinations after their question papers were leaked before the scheduled tests, raising fresh concerns over the integrity of the state’s examination system.
The leaked papers were for Machine Learning for Internet of Things and Electromagnetic Field Theory, affecting thousands of students across 12 engineering colleges affiliated with the university.
UTU Controller of Examinations Dr. V.K. Patel confirmed the leak and said both examinations had been cancelled. Fresh dates for the exams will be announced separately.
According to university officials, the question papers reached some students before the examinations began, prompting the administration to immediately scrap the tests and launch an internal investigation into the breach.
A committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor found that a professor at an affiliated engineering college had allegedly shared the question papers with a group of students before the examination. The inquiry confirmed the authenticity of the leak, officials said.
The university has barred the professor from participating in any examination-related work for the next seven years. Authorities are continuing to investigate how the confidential papers were accessed and whether others were involved in the leak.The incident comes amid heightened nationwide scrutiny over examination paper leaks, which have sparked protests by students and intensified calls for stronger safeguards to ensure transparency and fairness in India’s recruitment and academic examination systems.
