A passenger ferry carrying approximately 250 passengers and crew caught fire near Indonesia’s Madura Island on Sunday, leaving at least five people dead and 41 others missing, according to local authorities.

The blaze erupted while the ferry was sailing near Madura Island, causing panic among those onboard. Rescue teams, coast guard vessels, and emergency responders rushed to the scene and managed to evacuate many passengers.

Search and rescue operations are continuing as authorities work to locate the 41 missing people. Several survivors have been brought to safety, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
