India produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup final and lift the continental title for a record eighth time.
Batting first, India posted a formidable 183/5 on the back of a sensational opening partnership. Shafali Verma led the charge with a blistering 68, while Smriti Mandhana struck a composed 59, giving India the perfect platform to put Sri Lanka under pressure.
The Lankans managed to rein in India’s middle order during the latter stages of the innings, but the damage had already been done. India finished with a commanding total of 183 runs, leaving Sri Lanka with a steep chase.
Indian Bowlers Complete the Job
Sri Lanka’s chase never gathered the required momentum as India’s bowlers delivered a superb collective performance.
Shree Charani was the standout performer with the ball, producing a brilliant spell to claim four wickets for 20 runs. Deepti Sharma also made a decisive impact, picking up three wickets as India’s spin attack dismantled the Sri Lankan batting line-up.
Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 111, handing India a comprehensive 72-run victory.
The Indian bowlers displayed remarkable control, variation and guile when it mattered most, ensuring that Sri Lanka could not build a meaningful partnership during the chase.
