Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has questioned the government over the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023, pointing out that the legislation had already been passed with consensus and the full support of the Congress party.In a post on social media, Gandhi addressed the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and said that, given his position, he would be well aware of the fact that the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023, had been passed with consensus and with the Congress’ complete support.Gandhi’s remarks come amid the ongoing political discussion over the implementation of women’s reservation in Parliament and state legislatures.The Congress leader sought to highlight the party’s support for the legislation while questioning the government over the manner and timeline of its implementation.The Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023, provides for reservation of one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha, state legislative assemblies and the Delhi Assembly. Its implementation is linked to the completion of delimitation following the relevant census exercise.Gandhi’s latest post is likely to further intensify the political debate between the Congress and the BJP over women’s representation and the implementation of the reservation law.
