Sonam Wangchuk Shifted to Safdarjung Hospital After 21-Day Hunger Strike
Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday after his health reportedly deteriorated during a 21-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
According to reports, Delhi Police removed Wangchuk from the protest site early in the morning following medical concerns raised by doctors monitoring his condition. His prolonged fast had entered a critical phase, with doctors warning of possible complications if the hunger strike continued.
Wangchuk has been leading the protest over alleged irregularities in national examinations, and his removal from Jantar Mantar triggered chaos among supporters and protestors. Several activists alleged that he was taken away forcibly, while authorities maintained that the decision was made on medical grounds.
The Delhi High Court had earlier directed daily health monitoring of the activist and instructed authorities to ensure immediate medical intervention if his condition worsened.
As of now, Wangchuk remains under medical observation at Safdarjung Hospital, and further updates on his condition are awaited.
