Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food establishments across Mumbai, suspending the licences of six hotels, restaurants and other food outlets over alleged violations of food safety and hygiene standards.
The action forms part of an ongoing enforcement drive aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, storage and food-handling regulations.
FDA inspections have placed several establishments under scrutiny, with officials flagging alleged deficiencies related to hygiene, food storage, sanitation and labelling practices.
Among the establishments facing regulatory action were outlets in Bandra, Dahisar, Khar West, Andheri West and Chembur, according to the reported FDA action.
The department has warned food businesses that failure to comply with prescribed safety standards could result in strict regulatory action, including suspension of licences and other proceedings under applicable food-safety laws.

The latest crackdown highlights the Maharashtra FDA’s growing focus on protecting consumers from potentially unsafe food and unhygienic food-preparation conditions.
Hotels, restaurants, bakeries, clubs, canteens and food-storage facilities are increasingly coming under the department’s inspection drive.
The FDA’s message to food businesses is clear: maintaining hygiene, ensuring safe storage and following proper food-handling and labelling standards are mandatory—not optional.
