Haridwar: GST Office Employee Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹20,000 Bribe

Haridwar (RNS), February 24, 2026: Acting on a complaint by a Haridwar resident, the Vigilance Establishment carried out a major operation and caught a GST office employee red-handed while accepting a bribe. The accused, Pramod Semwal (Upnal employee), working as a data clerk, was arrested on the spot.
According to information received, the accused had allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant for settling a VAT tax matter related to the year 2017. The victim reported the matter to the Vigilance team, which then laid a trap and apprehended the accused while he was accepting the bribe.
The Vigilance team is currently interrogating the accused, and further legal proceedings are underway. The action has caused a stir within the department.
