Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Uttarakhand late at night, triggering panic among residents in several areas. A 4.2-magnitude earthquake was reported in Uttarkashi, while a separate 2.0-magnitude tremor was recorded in Tehri.According to preliminary information, the stronger tremor in Uttarkashi was felt at around 1:21 am, with residents in several parts of the district reporting noticeable shaking. Some people reportedly stepped out of their homes as a precaution after feeling the tremors.The tremors were felt across parts of the Yamuna and Ganga valleys, including Barkot, Purola, Mori, Chinyalisaur, Dunda and Bhatwari.
The Uttarkashi tremor was reportedly felt across a wide area, while lighter shaking was also experienced in parts of Tehri. Initial reports indicated the epicentre of the Uttarkashi earthquake was in the Rajgarhi area, at a shallow depth.Officials are monitoring the situation and further details regarding the earthquake, including any possible damage or casualties, are awaited.No major loss of life or property has been reported so far.
