The Centre and student representatives reported a partial breakthrough during a two-hour meeting on Saturday, with the government agreeing in principle to one of the key demands raised by protesters over the examination paper leak controversy.
The meeting, chaired by Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh, focused on the students’ core demands, including accountability, examination reforms and relief for families affected by the alleged paper leak.
As a significant outcome of the discussions, the government gave in-principle approval to provide ₹1 crore as compensation to the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the examination paper leak.
The compensation proposal was one of the principal demands put forward by the student delegation, which argued that affected families deserved financial support and official recognition of their loss.
While welcoming the government’s decision, student representatives said several key demands remain unresolved and discussions with the Centre will continue. They reiterated the need for comprehensive reforms to ensure transparency, prevent future paper leaks and restore public confidence in the examination system.
Government officials described the talks as constructive and said dialogue would continue to address the remaining issues.
The latest round of negotiations is being viewed as a significant step towards resolving the ongoing standoff between the Centre and the protesting students, although both sides acknowledged that further discussions are required before a final agreement can be reached.
