Missing for Four Months, ‘Intruder’ Detained Inside Army Cantonment Reunited With Family
Through Haldwani Police’s Cyber Intelligence
Haldwani, July 14: What initially appeared to be a high-security breach inside an Army cantonment has turned into a remarkable case of police vigilance, cyber expertise and humanitarian intervention.
A suspicious individual was detained by Army personnel after allegedly scaling the wall and entering a restricted area of the Rajpura Army Cantonment. Naib Subedar P.C. Pradhan (Unit-301), along with Havaldar Amar Nath Yadav, Havaldar Murti, Lance Naik Bablu Sharma and Naik Subhash Kumar, escorted the unidentified man to Kotwali Haldwani for further inquiry.
During questioning, the man appeared mentally unstable and was able to disclose only his first name, “Irfan.” He failed to provide any coherent explanation for entering the cantonment’s prohibited zone, prompting police to coordinate with multiple intelligence and security agencies.
Acting on the directions of Additional Superintendent of Police/CO Haldwani Amit Kumar, officers photographed the individual and initiated identification through the NETGRID cyber platform. The technical verification successfully established his identity as Irfan, approximately 36 years old, a resident of Sigohee village under Tulsipur police station in Balrampur district, Uttar Pradesh.
Haldwani Police immediately contacted DCR Balrampur and shared the details via WhatsApp. Through local authorities and village representatives, police reached Irfan’s family, who revealed that he had been missing for nearly four months.
According to relatives, Irfan had been taken to Gorakhpur for medical treatment, where he suddenly disappeared during the course of treatment. Despite extensive searches, the family had been unable to trace him.
Upon receiving the call from Haldwani Police, the family expressed immense relief and gratitude to the Nainital Police, confirming that they would travel to Haldwani immediately to take him home.
The case has been widely appreciated as an outstanding example of professional vigilance, advanced cyber-enabled policing and compassionate public service. Senior officials have also commended the police team for their swift and effective response.
