A multi-storey building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of southwest Delhi, near Delhi University’s South Campus, at around 1:30 PM on Sunday, triggering a major emergency response.
Satya Niketan is a densely populated locality known for student accommodation, and several students and residents are feared to have been inside the building when it collapsed.
Teams from the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed at the site. Rescue personnel are working rapidly to clear the debris and locate people who may be trapped underneath.
At least one person has been rescued, while several others are feared trapped beneath the rubble. Heavy machinery is being used to remove the collapsed portions of the structure and assist the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.
Emergency teams are continuing their efforts, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. Further details regarding casualties, injuries and the number of people rescued are awaited.
