Theatre Artists Turn Civic Responsibility into a Tribute to the Nation . In a significant display of civic responsibility and collective commitment to the cultural heritage of the hill town, theatre artists from across Nainital came together to clean the B.M. Shah Open Theatre on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.The initiative brought together senior and junior members of Nainital’s theatre fraternity, representing different theatre groups and artistic circles. Their collective effort transformed the clean-up activity into a meaningful gesture of respect for a venue that has long been associated with the city’s cultural and theatrical life.Among the senior theatre artists participating in the initiative were D.K. Sharma, Idrish Malik, Mithilesh Pandey and Dilawar Ji. They were joined by junior theatre artists Madan Mehra, Advocate Mohammad Khursid, Mohammad Nasir, Neeraj Dalakoti and Pawan Kumar, along with other members of Nainital’s theatre community.Preserving a Cultural Space .The B.M. Shah Open Theatre represents more than a physical performance venue for local artists. Open-air cultural spaces provide a vital platform for theatre, artistic expression and community engagement, particularly in a culturally vibrant city such as Nainital.By voluntarily undertaking the cleanliness drive, the theatre fraternity conveyed a strong message that artists can play an active role in preserving the spaces in which culture flourishes.A Collective Message on Independence Day .The initiative carried a broader significance on Independence Day, linking the ideals of freedom and citizenship with civic responsibility. The participating artists demonstrated that national celebration can extend beyond ceremonial programmes and assume the form of constructive community action. The participation of artists across generations also reflected the continuity of Nainital’s theatre tradition, with experienced performers and younger members working together for a common cultural cause. The clean-up drive stands as a reminder that protecting public cultural spaces is a shared responsibility. For Nainital’s theatre community, the gesture was not merely about cleanliness it was a collective tribute to the city’s artistic heritage and the spirit of Independence.
