Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, placed youth empowerment, artificial intelligence, technological innovation, manufacturing and national self-reliance at the centre of his vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047. A major thrust of the address was the empowerment of India’s young population. PM Modi announced a nationwide initiative to provide Artificial Intelligence training to one crore young Indians over the next year, with the objective of equipping the next generation with skills relevant to the rapidly transforming global economy.
Free Online Coaching for Competitive Examinations .In a significant education-related announcement, the Prime Minister said the government would establish a network for free online coaching for various competitive examinations. The initiative is aimed at reducing the financial pressure on families that spend heavily on private coaching and enabling talented students to access quality educational resources irrespective of their economic background. PM Modi emphasised that India possesses talented teachers and abundant educational resources, and that these strengths should be leveraged through digital platforms so that young aspirants do not have to bear an excessive financial burden.
‘Shakti Ki Saptadhara’: Seven Pillars of National Strength .The Prime Minister presented a broad developmental framework described as “Shakti Ki Saptadhara”, encompassing manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, infrastructure and Gati Shakti, defence production, the Green and Blue Economy, and India’s soft power. Under the technology pillar, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, semiconductors, digital communication and innovation received particular emphasis. PM Modi projected advanced technology as a decisive instrument for employment generation, industrial competitiveness and India’s strategic autonomy.Semiconductors, Defence and Next-Generation Technology .The address also underscored India’s ambition to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The government is targeting the establishment of seven to eight semiconductor plants over the next one to two years, according to reports on the speech. The defence sector was presented as another major engine of opportunity, with emphasis on domestic defence production, investment, innovation and next-generation capabilities. Technologies such as drones and advanced aerospace systems were highlighted within the broader vision of strengthening India’s defence ecosystem.Manufacturing and Global Indian Brands .PM Modi called for Indian products to evolve into globally recognised brands, with manufacturing driven simultaneously by cost competitiveness, quality and large-scale production. The government’s emphasis on MSMEs, manufacturing and technology is intended to expand employment and create stronger links between Indian enterprises and international markets. Agriculture and food processing were also positioned as critical pillars, with the objective of increasing value addition and transforming Indian agricultural products into competitive global commodities.Green, Blue Economy and India’s Soft Power .The Prime Minister also spoke about the economic potential of India’s natural resources through the Green and Blue Economy. At the same time, India’s cultural and civilisational strengths—including Yoga, Ayurveda, healthcare, creativity and tourism—were presented as important components of the country’s soft power.‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ and a Youth-Centric India .The overarching message of the Independence Day address was that India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 must be powered by a skilled, innovative and confident young generation.With AI training for one crore youth, free competitive-exam coaching, stronger semiconductor and manufacturing capabilities, defence-sector expansion and a seven-pillar development strategy, PM Modi’s address sought to place youth, technology and self-reliance at the heart of India’s next phase of growth.
