Social reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has strongly responded to criticism over ending his prolonged hunger strike, questioning why his decision has become the subject of intense scrutiny.In a fresh video message released after concluding the fast, Wangchuk said he had lost 11 kilograms during the protest and asked whether he now had to prove his honesty and commitment to the movement.“Why are there so many questions about my ending the fast? Do I now have to prove my integrity?” Wangchuk said.He maintained that the hunger strike was undertaken to highlight important public issues and urged people to focus on the objectives of the movement rather than on the manner in which the fast ended.The remarks come amid an ongoing debate over the conclusion of Wangchuk’s hunger strike, with supporters and critics expressing differing views. Wangchuk reiterated that his commitment to the cause remains unchanged despite ending the fast.
