Lalkuan: A grand seminar was organised in Lalkuan on Monday to mark the successful 
completion of 19 years of Final Call newspaper. The event brought together senior religious leaders, political representatives, journalists and social workers to discuss the changing role of journalism, public interest reporting and the challenges faced by regional media in the digital era.
The programme began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting by Chandrika Bisht and other dignitaries. The event was conducted by Ayushi Bhatt, whose energetic and impactful anchoring received wide appreciation from the audience and guests.
‘Independent Journalism Keeps Democracy Alive’
Addressing the gathering, Chandrika Bisht praised the newspaper’s 19-year journey and said that impartial and fearless journalism is essential for keeping democracy alive.
Senior Mahamandaleshwar Someshwar Yati Maharaj and Nagar Panchayat Chairman Surendra Singh Lotni stated that regional newspapers act as the voice of common citizens and play a crucial role in bringing local issues before the administration.
Credibility Is the Biggest Responsibility
Former MLA Navin Dumka and State Minister-ranked leader Hukum Singh Kunwar highlighted the growing challenge of maintaining credibility and factual accuracy in the age of digital media.
They said that while social media has increased the speed of information dissemination, the responsibility of verifying facts has become even more important for newspapers.
Journalism Must Focus on Public Interest
Senior BJP leader Kamlesh Chandola, senior Congress leader Hemwati Nandan Durgapal and Kundan Singh Mehta spoke about the social responsibilities of journalism.
They emphasised that raising issues related to public welfare and accountability is the true essence of journalism.
Regional Media Faces New Challenges
Sandhya Dalakoti, Pracharika Bai, Mahatma Alokanand and Gopinath also shared their views, noting that regional journalism is facing increasing competition from digital platforms but still holds a unique position because of its close connection with local communities.
Several speakers also praised Ayushi Bhatt’s graceful stage management, saying her presentation added depth and energy to the intellectual discussion.

At the conclusion of the programme, organiser and editor Ajay Upreti expressed gratitude to all guests, readers and associates.
